We opened the doors to a new approach to helping build a stronger, more vibrant Shoreline. The grand opening of Ronald Commons culminates a 14-month project brought to fruition by a unique partnership committed to serving Shoreline’s low-income community.

Ronald Commons is a new affordable housing development and service center that will offer housing for homeless and low-income residents, as well as support programs that include a food bank, family services and financial education and assistance for its residents and the Shoreline community.

Located on the Ronald United Methodist Church campus at 178th Street and Linden Avenue North, Ronald Commons merges compassion with a commitment to action; combining the resources, talent and vision of three organizations that have deep roots in the Shoreline community: Compass Housing Alliance, Hopelink and Ronald United Methodist Church.

The mixed-use building includes 60 units of affordable housing for low-income and formerly homeless individuals and families (owned and operated by Compass Housing Alliance) and a 12,000-square-foot integrated service center (owned and operated by Hopelink). An internal courtyard, play area and walking path will connect the three program facilities, building a sense of community for those who will call Ronald Commons home. The Ronald Commons project also includes remodel of the Ronald United Methodist Church to further its mission of community outreach.

Residents will be a mix of single and family households. Half of the units will be rented to households earning 30 percent or less than the King County area median income ($26,460 annually for a family of four), while the other half will be rented to households earning 50 percent or less than the median income ($44,100 annually for a family of four). Potential residents will be screened to ensure they are eligible for affordable housing.

We are proud to be a part of the Shoreline community, and we are excited for the future we are building together.

Ronald United Methodist Church

Is a diverse, faithful, active community of service, hospitality and hope. The church began in 1906 as a Sunday school, meeting in what was then known as the Ronald Schoolhouse. Later, Ronald was chartered as a United Methodist Church. From that small Sunday school, Ronald has grown into a diverse and vibrant faith community, representing many cultures, including Filipino, African, Caribbean, Japanese, Hispanic, and South American.

Since its origin as a small but vital Lutheran mission in 1920, Compass Housing Alliance’s vision has been to create a safe, caring community for all. Programs reach 10,000 people each year and include no-cost mail and banking, emergency services, overnight shelter, and transitional and permanent housing for single adults and families.

In addition to a current food bank and service center in Shoreline, Hopelink also operates centers in Redmond, Bellevue, Kirkland and Carnation that provide a variety of services – including housing, energy assistance, employment help, adult and financial education and family development. Hopelink provides transportation services in King and Snohomish Counties. The organization helps more than 60,000 people every year.
