The recent Executive Orders from Mayor Katie Wilson reflect the urgency of addressing our housing crisis in Greater Seattle at the pace and scale this issue requires. Many of the priorities outlined, which include expanding shelter capacity, integrating behavioral health services, and accelerating pathways to housing, speak to the complexity of homelessness and the need for multifaceted solutions.

The priorities align with approaches Compass has been advancing for years. As a provider of emergency services, enhanced shelters, and affordable housing, Compass has long advocated for integrated approaches. Homelessness is too often the outcome of unaddressed root causes, of which unaddressed mental and behavioral health challenges are particularly prevalent.

Translating policy directives into lasting impact in Seattle will depend on how the proposed solutions are implemented, including where services are located, the quality and training of staff, and the coordination of services with experienced providers.

We applaud Mayor Wilson for having identified housing as one of her top priorities. Compass stands ready to contribute its capabilities and resources as the City of Seattle and regional partners work to meet the needs of our neighbors who count on our support.

For Compass, this moment reinforces what has always guided our work: housing is foundational, and solutions must be built around the people they are meant to serve. With the continued support of our community, we will remain steadfast in delivering housing and care that creates stability today and hope for the future.
